Is there a Sign-Up Fee? No. The only amount due at sign-up is for your first term of service.

Do I need special software to use this service? The dial-up connection is created using software that is already available on your computer. The only special software that may be needed is the Lynx Accelerator Client, if you choose do add that service.

How many e-mail addresses do I get with Fastlynx? Every account comes with 5 addresses, with 250MB of storage space for each individually.

How can I close my Fastlynx LLC account? You can close your Fastlynx LLC account from within account management control panel. Once in here you will click on "Change Account Status." This will allow you to close the account.

I don't wish to cancel, but I'm going to be out of town. Can I suspend my account? Yes. Through the account management control panel you can choose to suspend your account. This will deactivate the account and freeze the amount of time left. Later you can reactivate the account and use the remaining time.

How can I manage my account? An account management control panel is available at the Fastlynx LLC website. Once at www.fastlynx.com you can click on "My Account" and this will take you to through a login process and to your account management. From here you can change your personal and billing information, usernames, and passwords.

Will I charged long distance fees for connecting to the Internet? Long distance charges will only apply if there is not a dial-up number in your local calling area. A list of dial-up numbers can be found here. If you are unsure that the number in your are is a local call, please consult you local telephone company.

What is a static IP address? A static IP address is one that is assigned to only you. You're IP address doesn't change when you connect to the internet.

Can I have a static IP address? No. Static IP addresses are typically assigned to connections that are "always on". Dial up has IP addresses assigned each time you connect.

Do I need to specify IP addresses or DNS server addresses? No, you will not need to specify an IP address or DNS. Both will be automatically assigned when you connect to the internet.

Why doesn't my 56K modem connect at 56K? Your modem will never connect at more than 53.3kbps due to FCC regulations. The speed of your modem will depend on what route the phone company sends your call through at a specific time of day, and also the noise and other variances in the phone line at any given point in time. If you are located more than about 3.5 miles from your telephone company's central office (CO), you will not be able to get 56k connections. In other words, you will not be able to connect above 28.8/33.6 kbps.

What can be done to speed up my connection? The quick answer is nothing. The reasoning behind that is the speed of your connection is dependant on multiple things: your modem, our modems, and all of the equipment between you and I that the call you make to us passes through. Your modem is most likely a 56k modem. Our modem is capable of delivering 64k. The equipment in between us varies in age and speed. You can only go as fast as the slowest link allows, and the slowest link is usually between you and I.

How do I change my dial-up number? In most versions of Windows, when the box comes up for you to click connect, you can change the number there before you connect, and once you connect, it will save it. Otherwise, click on Start and go to the Control Panel. Find Internet Options, and double click. Go to the Connection tab. In the white box, find your connection and click on Settings to the right of the white box. Then click on Properties at the bottom next to your username. Change the phone number on this screen, then click OK back to the Control Panel. This will update the phone number.

What do I do if I get an error that says "Cannot Establish a Connection"? First, reboot/restart your computer.
Second, test the phone line that the computer is using for quality of connection by calling and talking with someone for a while and listening for any type of line noise (static, echoing, humming, crackling, etc) If you do hear any of these, even the slightest bit of these, then there is an issue of line noise on the phone line. This would be an issue to discuss with your telephone company.
Third, walk through the first half of the "inetwiz" program by selecting "RUN" from your START menu. The first half will allow you to create a new dial-up configuration in case your old one has become corrupted. You would walk through the wizard until it prompts you to create a mail account and you would decline to do so.

What do I do if I get a message that says "Error 680 - No Dial Tone"? This error can only be produced by 4 things. 1. There is legitimately no dial tone on your phone line. 2. The jack that your modem is plugged into is bad. 3. The line between the jack and the modem is bad. 4. The modem is bad. The easiest way to troubleshoot this is to unplug the phone line from your computer and plug it into a phone. If you get dial tone, then your modem is bad. If you don't get dial tone, you'll need to check the line, the jack, and or the phone line itself.

What do I do if I get an error message that says "Error 630 - Modem Not Responding"? This error typically means that there is a hardware failure. Try restarting your computer and trying to connect again. If your modem is external, make sure it's connected correctly and it has power to it. If it's internal (you plug the phone line into the back of your computer), make sure your phone line is plugged in tightly. If you continue to get this error, you may need to speak with a computer repair technician to replace the modem. Or if you think you're capable, you can replace the modem yourself.

What do I do if I get an error in Internet Explorer that says, "This page cannot be displayed"? First, make sure you're actually connected to the internet. There should be two small computers in the bottom right hand corner of your screen. If you put your mouse over them, it should give you a little window that tells you you're connected and gives you the speed at which you're connected. If you are connected, then try refreshing your webpage. Try another webpage to make sure it's not just that site.

How do I configure my computer to connect with the Fastlynx LLC Service? Retrieve your dial-up number for your location, and then select the "RUN" option from the START menu. Type in the command "inetwiz" and click "OK" The command will start a wizard that will walk you through setting up your dial-up networking configuration and your email services.

mail server settings: mail.fastlynx.com for both incoming and outgoing
mail server account name: someone (NO "@fastlynx.com" !!! )

What do I do if my computer keeps asking for my Internet Username/Password over and over? Make sure you've typed your username all lowercase, all together. Be sure to use your full email address, not just the first half. Retype your password as well.

What do I do if I keep getting disconnected from the Internet? First, have the phone company send a technician to service your lines for line noise.

Am I limited to only using Internet Explorer? No, you can use the web browser of your choice with your Fastlynx LLC service. Alternate browsers include Netscape, Mozilla, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera.
